MANGKOLEMBA, JULY 17 (MExN): The Watsü unit (Women’s organisation) Mangkolemba, Mokokchung in coordination with the District Administration and Police personnel, carried out a surprise inspection targeting the illegal sale of liquor in shops and hotels across the town as part of the enforcement of the NLTP Act on July 16.
The inspection revealed several businesses openly violating the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act by selling liquor, a DIPR report informed.
Alcoholic beverages worth Rs 40,000 were confiscated and destroyed during the drive and authorities have issued stern warnings to violators stating that repeated offences could result in shop closures and licence cancellations, it said.
The drive is significant as Mangkolemba’s close location to Assam makes liquor easily accessible, leading to its widespread sale and consumption in the town, it noted.
The Watsü unit has been instrumental in supporting the district administration in addressing such issues, consistently working to curb social evils and promote peace and order within the community, the report added.
