•-It looks like the 2G Spectrum scam has indirectly affected Aircel customers to so many extent that Aircel will have to compensate for the loss incurred.
With the scam, the TRAI has awakened to realize that its partners like Aircel has gained popularity in the North East Telecom sector too by open and illegal means of selling SIM cards.
Thus when the TRAI tightens the noose by implementing DoT norms in word and deed, Aircel is simply caught red handed. But the ultimate losers are the customers whose numbers are deactivated within 48 hrs of receiving a message of non-compliance of DoT norms. The question therefore to concerned legal experts is that why Aircel has not compensated for the loss incurred due to deactivation? Had they insisted on proper formality of buying SIM cards, nothing such would have happened. Therefore they cannot go free without reflecting on adopting a little lenient policy to re-activate the numbers. Customers cannot be harassed this way after selling them SIM cards like "Paan’ and "Tamul".
Had it been some important persons not like me, deactivation of phone number just before Christmas would have caused a huge business and personal loss. The message to all subscribers whose numbers are deactivated is therefore loud and clear: It is not our fault, it is the fault of the esteemed company - the giant company Aircel.
Another interesting development is the fact that even after writing to the North East Nodal officer and Customer care, nothing substantial has been mentioned in the reply; and the document of Permanent Residential Certificate (POA) duly signed by SDO civil and Chairman of the Town Council was also not accepted as proof of Address by Aircel! This then implies that our SDOs and administrative officers here in the rural India are for nothing.
If simply selling SIM and deactivating without any hesitation and regrets is the guiding principle of the giant company, what will a mere struggling journalist say except to appeal the law to take its own course. The matter will not end here; this is just the beginning of the show which may also hit the national headlines. One last question to ponder upon is the fact as to how Aircel could move on such a long way without the knowledge of TRAI.
