WAYO condemns alleged assault

Kohima, June 21 (MExN): The Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO) has strongly condemned the alleged assault on a volunteer of the Kiruphema Youth Organisation by “gun toting antisocial elements” on June 15 along the National Highway 29 at Peducha.

WAYO in a press release stated that it made an enquiry on the incident and found that two miscreants in a “big dark SUV” with no registration plate refused to co-operate with the volunteer who was on duty to ease traffic in the landslide area.

“They also verbally abused the volunteer and later one of them brandished a pistol, pulled the volunteer aside and assaulted him, hitting him in the head several times with the pistol butt,” WAYO stated.

Insisting that the volunteers have been giving their best for the welfare and common good of all travellers along the landslide areas on NH29, WAYO termed the assault “senseless” and called for condemnations from all.

The youth organisation asserted that it will not tolerate such “senseless attack” on any of its members and demanded that the concern authority take appropriate action against the culprits.

The youth body further stated that it would be best for the culprits to confess their crime and seek apology “lest they are apprehended sooner or later on NH 29”. It claimed that there are eyewitnesses who happened to see the two miscreants in the SUV and added, “They can recognise the faces and positively identify the two goons if they ever come across them again.”.

WAYO wished the victim a speedy recovery and also urged the Kiruphema Youth Organisation to continue their selfless service for the welfare of the people.
