DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 18 (MExN): The Working Committee (WC), NNPGs today appealed for “statesmanship” from the Nagaland State Government.
A press release from the media cell of the WC, NNPGs stated that the Nagaland Chief Minister and all sixty members, under oath, owe their allegiance to the Indian constitution. “The state government is a child of Indian constitution and therefore it is always appropriate that the father and son should sing the same tune in the media on crucial matters between GoI and Nagas,” it stated.
“Interlocutors may change but not the issue. Talks starting afresh with a new chapter could mean different for different people. Every decision, every word of the state government counts at this hour. Naga leaders must instill hope in our people and built on the momentum achieved,” the committee added.
It said that the new Government of India representative on the Indo-Naga parleys, AK Mishra, has “reiterated strongly and reassured the Nagas that GoI will respect Agreed Position and subsequent negotiated points concluded with former interlocutor RN Ravi. Without any deviation, his job will be to take the matter to logical conclusion.”
It further informed that the WC, NNPGs conducted fruitful deliberations with the Nagaland CM and his cabinet colleagues on many occasions since the political negotiations began in 2017. “The Government of Nagaland has, for many years, played the role of a facilitator in the Indo-Naga issue. WC is confident that the State Government led by Chief Minister will play the perfect facilitator in letter and spirit,” it stated.
At this crucial stage, the WC said that the people of Nagaland must pray for wisdom and statesmanship for the Naga political groups, GoI and the Nagaland State Government.
