WC, NNPGs declares position on UNPG/NNC leadership issue

Dimapur, May 3 (MExN): The Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) today declared its position on the UNPG/NNC leadership issue by stating it would “welcome reconciliation within UNPG/NNC leadership because the matter is within the leadership created by terminated elements.”

“The WC,NNPGs will encourage Z Royim to respect his own age, respect the Naga issue and remain a part of WC, NNPGs maintaining the status quo,” stated the Committee in a  press release issued by its Media Cell.

“If Royim chose go against WC, NNPGs unity, as per the decision of UNPG/NNC emergency declaration, WC will only recognise the leadership of Kiviho Zhimomi President and Toshi Walling, General Secretary, who is also the Co-Convener in the WC,NNPGs, as legitimate leadership of UNPG/NNC,” it added.

The WC, NNPGs further maintained that only through such arrangement, Royim  would be regarded as a Naga leader and he would be “isolated” without the Committee.

The WC, NNPGs stance came after the United Naga People's Government (UNPG), Naga National Council (Parent-Body) Central Executive Council and the Council of Kilonsers informed on April 26 that they have resolved to relieve Royim, from his duties and responsibilities as the president of the UNPG NNC (P-B) with the completion of his 2nd tenure.

In place of the outgoing president, the council appointed Kiviho Zhimomi as the new president. Zhimomi was working as the Council’s vice president, then informed a press statement received from the MIP, UNPG/NNC (P-B).

Meanwhile, the WC, NNPGs justified its stance by stating that the UNPG/NNC is represented by senior leader Walling, General Secretary and Co-Convener, in the Government of India (GoI) and WC, NNPGs political negotiations while Zhimomi as Vice-President of UNPG/NNC, has attended all important committee meetings and decisions are taken with him on board in the absence of Royim.

Although a very senior worker, Royim, at 80, is limited by age, education and geography, it maintained.

“These factors appeared to have played critical role in Royim, falling prey to dubious and divisive elements over phone,” the WC, NNPGs claimed.

The Committee is convinced that there are “anti-Naga elements and characters using cash and criminal propaganda to destroy the unity and comradeship within the WC, NNPG members,” it asserted.

“Some vulnerable senior members have been bought off already and some are being contacted with the promise of great financial incentives,” it further claimed.

Unfortunately, the geographical distance between leaders and easy accessibility to their mobile phones have allowed the dejected, discharged and terminated members to easily contact, mislead and brainwash senior leaders with false information about senior colleagues, it added.

In this connection, the WC, NNPGs stated that it would welcome reconciliation within UNPG/NNC leadership and maintenance of status quo as well as recognition of the new leadership if its decision is not adhered with.
