Dimapur, March 17 (MExN): The Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH), along with its frontal organisations, has reiterated support for the collective memorandum submitted by Dimapur-based Tribal Hohos to the Nagaland Government, seeking issuance of the second phase work order for the Foothills Road project under the SASCI scheme by March 31.
In a statement issued on March 17, the WCH, along with the Western Chakhesang Students’ Union (WCSU), Western Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (WCMA) and Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation (WCYO), emphasised that the continuation of the two-lane Foothills Road remains a priority.
Describing the project as a “People’s Road,” the Hoho stated that it represents the shared aspirations of the Naga people for improved connectivity, economic growth and integration. It noted that since its inception in 2013, the project has symbolised unity and collective effort across districts and communities.
The organisation expressed concern that any delay in the project’s continuation could undermine public confidence and affect the progress achieved so far. It called for constructive dialogue, mutual understanding and coordinated action among stakeholders to avoid impediments.
The WCH further maintained that the ongoing two-lane construction under the SASCI scheme should not be conflated with other proposals at this stage, stressing that the project must remain the immediate priority.
It also stated that any deviation or delay could lead people to democratically assert their demands, while reaffirming its commitment to stand with the Dimapur-based Tribal Hohos until the matter is resolved.
