The Wokha District Football Association (WDFA) commemorated Grassroots Football Day with a series of engaging activities held at ZK Turf, Saron Colony on May 23. The event aimed to nurture young talent and raise environmental awareness in alignment with the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) broader goals.

Young boys aged between 4 and 10 from across the district were invited to participate in football training sessions designed to foster early interest and skill development in the sport. A separate camp was organised for boys under the age of 16, further strengthening the grassroots football framework and providing a structured development pathway for aspiring players.

In a significant move to combine sport with social responsibility, WDFA carried out a tree-planting drive under the theme “Football for the Goals.” This initiative echoed the AIFF’s call to integrate sustainability into football-related activities, aiming to inspire the local football community to contribute to environmental preservation.
A highlight of the day’s events was an exhibition match between officials of the WDFA and the Wokha District Referee Board (WDRB), which brought a spirited and competitive close to the celebration.
