WDLSA organises essay competition on ‘Child Rights in India’

Wokha, October 14 (MExN): The Wokha District Legal Service Authority (WDLSA) organized an essay competition on the topic ‘Child Rights in India’ for the Class 11 and 12 students of Government Higher Secondary School, Wokha at the school premise on October 14.  

WDLSA in a press release stated that the students actively participated in the essay competition which was focused mainly on the Child Rights in India taking at the scenario of the importance and the changes occurring in it.  

Secretary WDLSA, WV Patton introduced the topic and explained crystal with regard to the Child and its rights, giving due attention to the Indian context. She emphasized that a child has a right like an adult as it is recognized through the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and special reference to United Nation’s Convention of the Rights of Child (1989) was made. She added by stating that a child should be given special guidance, care and protection as they hold our future. Panel Lawyer David also spoke on the stated topic and encouraged the students to identify their various rights and fight for them. Para Legal Volunteers (PLV) along with the School Administrators assisted in conducting the Competition in a smooth and fair manner.  

Erenbeni A. Ezung of Cl-12 bagged the first prize (Rs. 3000 with Certificate), Ajano A. Ovung Cl- 12 got the second prize (Rs. 2000 with Certificate) and Loreni Cl-11 received the third prize (Rs. 1000 with Certificate). Prizes were handed over by the Secretary WDLSA in the presence of the School officials, Panel Lawyers, PLVs, Judges and the participants. Vote of thanks was delivered by Woben (PLV) on behalf of the WDLSA and expressed immense gratitude to the School Officials and Students for all the support, cooperation and participation. Altogether, 45 students participated in the essay competition.
