More organizations call for swift justice in Kohima murder case

KOHIMA, October 30 (MExN): The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) expressed deep shock over the “brutal murder” of a 22-year-old woman basketball player, whose body was found here, and demanded an impartial and expedited investigation into the case.

The association, in a statement addressed to the Governor of Nagaland, described the killing as “heinous” and stated that it has “shattered us beyond imagination.”

“We cannot be a silent spectator on this,” the NMA stated.

The body of the young athlete was discovered near a ring well at Old Minister’s Hill colony on Saturday morning.

The NMA implored the Governor's office to ensure a swift investigation and “award befitting punishment to the perpetrator(s) according to the provisions of the law.”

The mothers' body also urged the state government to take necessary preventive measures to stop the recurrence of such violence and killings.

It appealed to all citizens to “shun violence and killing” and to help ensure that safety, security and respect for human lives be upheld.

The NMA extended its condolences to the victim's family and stated it stands in solidarity with them during this difficult time.

Kohima District Athletics Association (KDAA) said her demise was an irreparable loss and called for a “prompt, thorough, and impartial investigation so that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.”

Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) expressed being “deeply shocked and anguished” by the “heinous and senseless act of violence.” The association also appreciated the Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) for taking suo motu cognisance of the case.

Kohima District Volleyball Association (KDVA) strongly condemned the reprehensible crime, stating that such a brutal act is an affront to humanity and deserves the “strictest punishment under the law.”

Jakhama Gazetted Officers' Krotho (JGOK) lamented the loss of a brilliant graduate and a “talented singer,” whose life was “cut short by this cold-blooded murder.” The JGOK urged law enforcement agencies to “expedite the investigation with urgency” and ensure transparency to prosecute the culprit(s) under the “severest punishment according to the Law.”

Northern Angami Public Organization (NAPO) expressed heartfelt sorrow and condemned the intolerable act, urging the law enforcing agencies to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice under the harshest laws.

Western Angami Women Organisation (WAWO) stated it was “deeply shocked” by the “gruesome and inhumane murder” and asked the law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and given exemplary punishment as per the law.
