‘We must strive to bring the Naga tribes closer’

Khezhakheno Welfare Society Kohima celebrates golden Jubilee

“We must strive to bring the Naga tribes closer, reignite the spirit of kinship and solidarity by reaching out and forging bonds, build bridges that foster understanding and unity among all Nagas,” said Salhoutuono Kruse, Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture.

Gracing the celebration programme as the special guest in lieu of the chief minister, Kruse extended the jubilee greeting during the Khezhakheno Welfare Society Kohima (KWSK) golden jubilee at NBCC convention hall on October 14. KWSK was established in the year 1973 with the primary vision to foster a sense of solidarity amongst its members.

While jubilee calls for celebration, reflection, and recognition, Kruse also reminded that it also serves as a time for planning and looking ahead to the future. “It is an opportunity to assess what has been accomplished and identify areas that still need improvement and to set new goals and objectives that will guide you to the next years ahead,” said Kruse. 

She lauded that KWSK who is dedicated towards fostering of a sense of solidarity not only amongst its own members, but striving towards nurturing cordial relationship with our other Naga communities as well.

Khezhakeno village, historically the ancestral village of many Naga tribes, the Minister said this gives them an added responsibility to rebuild and strengthen ancestral relationships with other Naga tribes. 

While individualism often takes priority in the present time, and especially, where Naga society stands badly fragmented owing to numerous reasons, she reminded all that solidarity is the backbone of any thriving community and asserted that “it has become imperative for all of us, to cultivate a sense of togetherness within our society.”

“Let us continue to work together to bridge divides, nurture empathy and compassion for each other and create a harmonious society for ourselves and our children,” urged the Minister.

Kohima Village Chairman, Helievi Solo emphasised on the need towards nurturing brotherhood among all Naga communities to build a harmonious and strong future for posterity. He called upon all to embrace the spirit of solidarity to overcome all obstacles and divisive forces for peaceful coexistence of all in the state.

Also speaking on the occasion, MLA Dr Neisatuo Mero said that the Khezhakheno people should glorify and exalt God for His abundant blessings upon them. He also called on the urgent need for unity and solidarity amongst the Nagas.

Meanwhile, it was informed that Khezhakheno village has a total of 58 gazetted officers besides many officers. At present there are 1200 Khezhakheno members residing in the capital town.

Earlier, the Minister also virtually unveiled the jubilee monolith.
