'We need to take sports seriously'

Chizami (Phek) | April 8 : Minister for health & family welfare Küzholüzo (Azo) Nienu today kicked started the 2nd edition of Chizami Cup 2011 here under the aegis of Life Sports. Inaugurating the weeklong tournament, the minister encouraged the sports persons to maintain discipline, dedication and be committed in whatever field they involve in.
On the other hand, he expressed dismay over lack of consistency among the Nagas. He cited the common phenomenon wherein people involve in sports for a short duration and give up suddenly. He also regretted that constant practice was also lacking among the Naga youth while in case of other, they practice for several years together and become expert in different fields.
“Today, we need to take everything seriously,” Azo said.
He asserted that disciplines is the basic requirement to attain proficiency in the field of games and sports, adding that discipline changes the individual, community, state and also the country.
Expressing happiness that Dr. T. Ao has brought laurel to the state in the field of football, he categorically said the state need to produce more like Dr. T. Ao and this can happen when the sports persons display their sincerity and take sports with seriousness. The minister lauded the organizer- Life Ministries for bringing a state level football event in Phek district and to promote local talents and take them towards greater height. The minister sponsored a cash prize for champions amounting to Rs. 1 lakh.
Altogether, 28 teams from Phek and Kohima districts are vying for the coveted champion title, which will conclude on April 16. Earlier, Colo Mero, Director, Life Ministries delivered keynote address while Chizami Village Council Chairman Kewepelo Tsuha delivered welcome address.
Pfutsero ADC Kewekha Mero, Phek Division NPF president Chivotso Nienu, Besupra Swuro PS to minister for H&FW, Welo, president NPF Phek division youth wing and several other dignitaries were present at the inaugural function.
