Crop Advisories
Naga king chilli - Before sowing of seeds in nursery, seed treatment should be done with Thiram @2gm/litre of water. To prevent damping off, avoid over watering and close spacing.
Potato – Timely collect and destroy disease infected and insect infested plant parts. Collect and destry eggs abnd early stage larvae, handpick the older larvae during early stages of crop. Install pheromone traps@4-5 acre for monitoring adult moths activity (replace the lures with fresh lures after every 2-3 weeks). Use sticky trap @4-5 trap/acre.
Rajmash – Deep ploughing should be done to expose pupae, propagules of soil borne pathogens and to reduce the weeds infestation. Grow pea as a trap crop for the management of leaf miner. Intercropping should be done with maize crop.
Okra - Farmers are advised to start field’s preparation for sowing of lady finger. Arrangement should be done for good quality of seeds cultivars. Seed rates should be 8-10 kilogram per acre. Use well decompose FYM before sowing of crop.
Mango - In mango orchard, Start monitoring for mango hopper and destroy infected inflorescence if mango malformation is found.
Litchi - Spray neem seed extract 4-5ml/L or neem oil at pea stage of fruit to minimise population of fruit borer.
For mite infestation, immediately cut off the infested leaves and branches and burn it
Livestock Advisories
Poultry
- During this season, plenty of cool, clean fresh drinking water should be provided as the water consumption increases during summer and feed should be provided during cooler parts of the day such as early morning or late evening.
Piggery
- As the weather gets warmer, make sure your pigs have proper shade at all times – Keep pens clean to deter flies, provide ad libitum clean drinking water. Keep up-to-date with deworming and vaccinations
- Do AI (Artificial Insemination) in sow for breeding purpose. Rs 200/- per animal.
- Take preventive measures against swine fever, the disease can spread quickly when you have a large number of animals living together, when they share the same food, water and housing facilities. Once a pig is infected, it has a hundred percent fatality rate. Check the herd for spotting out the sick animals and contact the veterinarian for necessary treatment
- Vaccinate all newly born piglets against swine fever at the age of 3 months followed by annual booster dose. Keep floor dry to avoid skin diseases.
- Do not feed abortion inducing feed materials like cherry, plum, peach leaves, fruit pits, pineapple, papaya etc to pregnant sows.
- Provide iron supplementation – ferrites/3 DRed in neonatal piglets.
Fisheries
- Renovation works like pond excavation, strengthening of embankment and side slopes, etc. should be done before the onset of pre-monsoon. The optimum pond water depth should be 2.5- 3.0 m depth with capacity of holding at least 1.5 m water depth throughout the year.
- Apply powdered lime over dry surface of the pond bottom @ 130 kg/ha. After 10 days fill the pond by pumping ground water or from nearby sources. Do not depend solely on rainwater to fill the pond as late monsoon may delay the culture operation time.
- If the pond is filled with water then lime should be first dissolved in water in a container and then spray over the water surface. Lime helps in checking the soil/water pH. For better fish growth a pH range of 7.0 – 8.5 is recommended.
- Apply cowdung@1 ton/ha after 10 days of lime application. The cow dung should be placed at one corner of the pond so that it dissolves slowly.
- After 7-10 days, apply urea @ 25 kg/ha and SSP @ 20 kg/ha. Urea and SSP can be mixed together with pond mud and the mixture should be placed at different spots of the pond bottom.
- Application of cow dung, urea and SSP should be done only after the pond is filled with water.
- After few days the pond water will starts turning greenish, which indicates that the pond has enough natural fish food organisms and is ready for stocking fish fingerlings
