Dimapur, June 6 (MExN): In commemoration of the World Environment Day under the theme ‘Only One Earth’ with the focus ‘Living sustainably in harmony with Nature’, various organisations and initiatives were taken across different part of Nagaland.
Chizami: Around 100 people comprising of students, teachers and others joined the cleanliness and plantation drive at Chizami on June 4.
Goyiepra Memorial Government High School (GMGHS), Chizami in an update stated that the event was organized by GMGHS Chizami in collaboration with Chizami Students’ Union (CSU), North East Network (NEN) and Jehohanan Strivers (JS), Chizami.
GMGHS in-charge Wedete Tsuhah shared the significance of effective partnership for quality education and nurturing environment beyond the classroom teaching. Zulhipe Wezah, a community knowledge holder shared his experience on the indigenous knowledge systems and concerns relating to environment.
Vilazonuo, Associate Project Lead from NEN said, ‘we all must be socially responsible and continue to do better at the individual and community level to protect and restore our planet.’
“Lead by example with kindness, love, integrity, respect and persevere in whatever you want to do in life and excel,” said CSU president Khrolhiwe-u Tsuhah (Awi) in her message.
On waste management issue, CSU Vice President, Rukewete Edemi encouraged the students to reflect on their lifestyles, switch, and demand and make an effort to reduce, reuse, recycle and refuse. JS President Lhikhrolo T Mero also shared that collaboration is the way forward.
PYO: Pfuchatsumia Youth Organisation (PYO), Kohima planted 1500 tree saplings from Keyake to Pesocha (Youth Mile Road) on June 4 under the theme ‘Plant a tree, save the earth.’ About 400 youths from P Khel, Kohima village joined the programme. P Khel council, chairman, Kelhousetuo Rutsa exhorted the gathering.
Sewanu: Sewanu village under Tseminyu district undertook tree plantation on June 4 under the theme ‘Plantations of tree, clean and green.’ The villagers planted Cherry, Ashoka and Bokal trees sponsored by Er Nitilo Magh, Halifax, Canada. Tiangro, BDO, RD Block Chunlikha shared the importance of environment. Wasenmo Magh, president, TGSU and Tisenmo Jemu, president, VDB Association RD Block Chunlikha also spoke on the occasion, stated an update from Nthonwa Magh, VDB secretary, Sewanu village.
AKTK: The Ao Kaketshir Telongjem Kohima (AKTK) conducted a cleanliness drive at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama on June 4 under the theme ‘Today's measure for tomorrow's treasure-preserve, protect and prosper.’ AKTK president stated that this cleanliness drive have been initiated to create awareness on the importance of keeping the public areas clean and to spread the message that “as citizens of the district, it was everyone responsibility to keep the city, surroundings, and places of public clean and litter free.”
BMSCH: Bright Morning Star Children Home (BMSCH) Kohima has commemorated WED on June 4 at BMSCH Kohima. BMSCH staff and children joined the social work and later painting competition was held for both juniors and seniors. Freelance artist Mhayani Kikon was the judge of the competition. Later, Aleno, Superintendent BMSCH and Ruokuo Vice President, IDEAL Charitable Society also planted tree saplings along with others.
37 BN BSF Chedema: The 37th Battalion Border Security Force (BSF) Chedema, Kohima carried out a mass plantation drive by planting tree saplings in and around its camp area and Keyake, Kohima. Stressing on the importance of plantation which is a major step towards healthier environment, the 37th Battalion Commandant Vinod Kumar assured to carry out series of similar activity this season, according to 37th Battalion BSF Chedema.
ABAM: A total of 150 trees were planted at Impur by the residents on June 4 under the initiative of ABAM office which also signifies the commemoration of Sesquicentennial celebration. Dr Sentitula, IFS Divisional Forest Officer, Mokokchung made the arrangement for the trees.
AIDA: ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA)-Don Bosco, implementing SBI Gram Seva programme in Dimapur distributing ornamental tree saplings to the 5 adopted villages- Khriezephe, Diezephe, Urra, Bade & Tsithrongse, provided by Forest Department Dimapur & Chümoukedima Districts.
Child Friendly Dimapur members and Gram Seva adopted villages participated in plantation drive. AIDA received 500 saplings from the Forest Range Office Dimapur Division and another 300 another from Forest Range Office Chümoukedima Division for tree plantation in 16 villages.
In a function organised at AIDA Dimapur, Jithin V Jimmy, Federal Bank Dimapur Branch Manager and AIDA Executive Director, Rev Fr Roy George SDB together with the AIDA staff and the bank staff planted trees.
