Dimapur, November 22 (MExN): CHILDLINE 1098 Dimapur observed its annual weeklong campaign CHILDLINE Se Dosti 2018 from November 14 to 21.
On November 14, CHILDLINE Dimapur organized two events which included Children’s’ day celebration with children from Grace learning Centre at Kuda Mill, Lingrijan and the second event being ‘CHILDLINE se Dosti’ awareness campaign on CHILDLINE 1098 and Child Sexual Abuse with the students of Government Hr. Sec. School Dimapur. At the Children’s’ day programme around 50 children from 3 years to 17 years were part of the celebration.
During the programme awareness on CHILDLINE 1098 and the significance of Children’s’ Day was shared with the children. The programme included games, singing, prize distribution and lunch for all the participants.
In the other event at Government Hr. Sec. School, Vitono Gugu Haralu, Director Path Finders was the resource speaker on the topic of Child Sexual Abuse. She spoke on safe zones of the body and how to protect themselves from various kinds of abuses. Totivili, Counsellor CHILDINE Dimapur shared on CHILDLINE 1098 and its services.
Komal, a video on child sexual abuse was also shown to the students to educate them on ‘Good Touch and Bad Touch.’
In the second event, CHILDLINE Dimapur conducted creation of Child Friendly Room cum CHILDLINE Contact Centre at Women Police Station Dimapur. The team refurbished a room to make it more child friendly and less intimidating for juveniles.
In its third event, CHILDLINE Dimapur created a section on CHILDLINE 1098 in the Dimapur Public Library with the active support from the Executive Members Dimapur Public library headed by Susan Lotha, Co-founder and President who is also a Member of Juvenile Justice Board Dimapur. The CHILDLINE 1098 section consists of CHILDLINE newsletters, CHILDLINE magazines, Handbooks and booklets on legal provision and acts related to children etc.
CHILDLINE Dimapur participated in the awareness programme on Gender based violence and the role of women in building peace organized by Assisi Centre for Integrated Development and National Domestic Workers Movement supported by International Domestic Workers Federation.
Loza, Centre Coordinator CHILDLINE Dimapur enlightened the audience on the issue of gender based violence at home, work place and the society.
In an effort to address the alarming issue of violence, abuse and exploitation of poor children working as child domestic workers, CHILDLINE Dimapur on November 18 reached out to more than 80 churches in Dimapur by sharing the message on the urgent need to talk about child protection issues in the Churches during the Sunday devotional service. On November 19, CHILDLINE Dimapur created a temporary booth for CHILDLINE outside the Railway protection Force office at Railway Station Dimapur. The purpose of this booth is to serve as an outreach for children at the railway station to ensure the care and protection, security and well- being of run-away, unaccompanied and trafficked children who come in contact with the railways.
The CHILDLINE team will be available at the Booth on every Tuesdays of the week from 11 am to 2:00 pm. On the last two concluding days of the weeklong campaign, November 20 and 21 respectively, CHILDLINE Dimapur conducted street awareness at Hongkong market area, new Market area and Church Road. The team distributed leaflets, pamphlets and also went door to door to different shops and stores sharing on the use of the toll free CHILDLINE number 1098, which is manned 24x7.
