Weekly bazaar opens at Mangkolemba town

Mangkolemba: A much-needed weekly bazaar was started in Mangkolemba town on March 5 much to the excitement of the public. For years, the people of Mangkolemba were yearning for a market.

Seeing the necessity and the various facilities and opportunities that come with it, a group of 12 friends formed the Mangkolemba Town Marketing Committee (MTMC) in 2012 and initiated with the noble goal of starting the much required market for the public.

A press note stated that a short prayer programme in the morning marked the start of the Wednesday bazaar wherein Mangkolemba Adhoc Town Committee, local church leaders, Mangkolemba Ao Lanur Telongjem, all ward chairmen and gaonburas and people from all walks of life participated.

Along Longchar, convenor of MTMC, chaired the inaugural programme. In his inaugural speech, president, MTMC, Medemkaba Walling highlighted the various market surveys done and the struggles faced in locating the right businessmen and vendors from Mariani and Nagachari in Assam and also from the nearby villages. He further thanked the various organizations for extending help and called for public support and cooperation for the success of this Wednesday bazaar. Nungsang Longkumer, vice chairman, MATC also spoke in the programme.

“I am happy for we get fresh vegetables and goods of our choice now,” said a beaming Narola Pongen, a teacher. At the moment, there is no storage facility in Mangkolemba and constructing one with the assistance of either the state government or some businessman will be our immediate goal, averred Yanger, MTMC member “as this will facilitate in upgrading the bazaar into a daily market.”
