Dimapur, August 31 (MExN): The weighing bridge at the Inter State Truck Terminal (ISTT), 7th mile Chümoukedima, will be made operational with effect from September 10, to address the issue of overloaded trucks plying on Dimapur-Kohima road which leads to frequent standing and stoppage of traffic.
This was informed in an order issued by Dimapur Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh Soundararajan, through the DIPR on August 31.
As per the order, all up-bound (Kohima route) goods laden vehicles will have to undergo weigh tests and obtain weight compliance slips without which they will be allowed to go up to Kohima.
However, the DC’s order exempted certain categories of vehicle such as tankers, trucks ferrying FCI goods, trucks used for central/state project works, trucks engaged in four lane/National Highway projects, railway works and trucks engaged for local duties within Dimapur from obtaining the weight compliance slip.
The order however stated that overloading will not be allowed and the vehicle load carrying capacity will be as per the registered payload or gross vehicle weight mentioned in the vehicle registration certificate. It shall be strictly followed and shall be the responsibility of the concerned vehicle owners to remove the excess load and transport the same out of ISTT, it said.
No goods shall be left in the ISTT premises, it added.
The DC also cautioned that overloading of any goods vehicles will attract punitive action under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
