Though my haphazard opinions, views and requests in the media circle for almost two decades to Nagas to stop killing and desires for Naga unity seems a waste of ‘Love Labour Loss’ or say the shout to a deaf. So, I have distanced myself in such issues for some years as whosoever are responsible in such matters have much better human instincts than what I have presumed. After much hesitation to scribble, I resurfaced in the circle due to the encouragement and invitation of elderly leaders in the likes of Dr. S.C. Jamir and Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu for their hunger to examine diverse public opinions. Hence, I am happy that such leaders are there to guide me in any flaws at the same time I am at peace for I have reconciled with all human beings.
Well, coming to my attention, Duke of York and second son of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Andrew’s maiden visit scheduled on May 1, 2012 to Kohima, I wish to draw your Majesty’s attention as a Naga. Since your Majesty has the mandate and authority of the Queen to tour the commonwealth countries, the Queen’s 15 realm nations, whatever, to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee (60 years) celebration where Kohima the capital of Nagaland visit is appropriately confirmed. Sir, I personally welcome your Majesty’s visit to Kohima where your maiden stoppage in the capital, Kohima shall be serene, memorable and secure inspite of many underdeveloped happenings.
I look forward to your Majesty’s visit with a package from Queen Elizabeth II’s chamber to rectify a wound which is historically disputing and may perpetuate to bloodbath. Historically it is understood that Nagaland or Naga inhabited areas are demarcated or dominated by the British for administrative conveniences. Nagaland became part of statehood in 1963, within the administration of mighty India when British regime granted Independence to the divided Nations of Pakistan and India on August 15, 1947. But please note that Nagas privileges their independence on August 14, 1947 under the banner of Naga National Council (NNC), where many Nagas are stoutly pursuing pure sovereignty. But since the issue of independence and dependence are beyond my capacity, I found inappropriate to meddle in the matter.
My apprehension in the burning issue of the division of Naga inhabited areas which were demarcated by Britishers for administrative convenience which the Great India still follow as India was once a protectorate of the Highness dominance. It is not to let your Majesty draw lines but please admit and pronounce that Naga inhabited land were divided for conveniences only.
Since Makoto Kato, General Secretary, Japan Baptist Convention recently sought forgiveness from the Nagas for the excesses inflicted during World War II, while the Allied forces stewarded by Britishers could hardly rebuilt the damages caused at Kohima and elsewhere in Naga areas during World War II. Please do the favour to avoid bloodshed. If by reasons of impossibility for pronouncement, let your Majesty built another Tennis court complex equivalent to Wimbledon Tennis Court complex at World War II cemetery by shifting the cemetery to some other place as the present location was in fact a Tennis court during British regime according to history.
As for my brethren Nagas, maintain patience, for as long as you settle on your land and relish upon the fruits of your soil, it belongs to you.
K K Kevin,
Kohima
