Welfare and development meeting focuses on progress for Lakhuti Village

WOKHA, OCTOBER 27 (MExN): A significant meeting aimed at enhancing the welfare and development of Lakhuti village was convened on October 26 at Lotha Hoho Ki in Wokha. 

Organized in collaboration with the Wokha Town Lakhuti Ekhung (WTLE) and the Village Council of Lakhuti, the event saw participation from various groups, including the Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Kohima Lakhuti Ekhungs, the Lakhuti Officer Forum, and the Lakhuti Students’ Union.

Keynote speaker Mhathung Yanthan, MLA and Advisor for Agriculture, emphasized the blessings that each member of the Lakhuti community enjoys. He urged villagers to remain humble, express gratitude, and act as agents of peace and unity within their community and beyond.

Yanthan highlighted the historical significance of Lakhuti village, noting its pivotal role in the Naga political struggle. He called on attendees to respect their heritage and foster a strong sense of responsibility and belonging among the villagers. He cautioned that the actions of individuals are often scrutinized and encouraged them to set positive examples for others.

Focusing on sustainable development, Yanthan urged villagers to engage with government programs and shift from being mere consumers to active producers. He warned against the tendency to seek subsidies without implementing practical projects, advising them to utilize available resources wisely.

Addressing the issue of youth unemployment, Yanthan encouraged students to pursue skill training to enhance their employability or become entrepreneurs. He reminded the community to effectively use government resources, including the water supply initiatives under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

The meeting also heard speeches from various dignitaries, including Dr. Zuben Kikon, Chief Medical Officer Wokha, and Mhonthung Yanthan, Chairman of the Village Council Lakhuti. A range of topics was discussed, including education, infrastructure, and social development.

Chaired by Zubemo Lotha, Chairman of WTLE, the meeting began with an invocation by N. Chophathung Kikon, Assistant Catechist at St. Paul’s Catholic Church Wokha. T. John Yanthan, Advisor to WTLE, delivered the vote of thanks, while the benediction was offered by Nyimathun Ngullie, Steward of Wokha Town Baptist Church.

The meeting underscored a collective commitment to the ongoing welfare and social progress of Lakhuti village.
