Chumoukedima, November 8 (MExN): The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has expressed concern over the police administration's lack of progress in the investigation of the tragic death of Noghuvi K. Sumi, a young theologian student. The organization has condemned the authorities' failure to make any meaningful advancement in the case and has called for immediate action.
Noghuvi K. Sumi was found dead on November 2. Despite extensive calls for justice from student communities, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and the family, there has been no arrest or significant progress in identifying those responsible for the death.
The WSYF has criticized the police for their inaction, stating that the delay in bringing the perpetrators to justice is an "unacceptable betrayal of trust" and a "disturbing disregard for the safety and well-being of society." The youth organization emphasized that the prolonged inaction has only intensified the suffering of the bereaved family and raised questions about the local authorities' priorities.
"It is incomprehensible that such a tragic death of a student has been met with silence and inaction," said Atokiho Sumi, President of the WSYF. "Every day that goes by without progress adds to the family's suffering and undermines the community’s faith in law enforcement."
The organization has called for immediate action from the police to prioritize the case, deploy all necessary resources, and apprehend those responsible for the crime. The WSYF has also warned that the community will not rest until justice is served.
"The silence of the law enforcement agencies is deafening and alarming," said Botoho Chumi, General Secretary of the WSYF. "Our community is shaken, our youth are outraged, and we will not stand idly by while justice is delayed."
