Artist Moaso Aier brings post-impressionist visions home

Dimapur, February 12 (MExN): The Nagaland Art Center hosted a solo painting exhibition titled “Where the Land Breathes Colour” by visual artist Moaso Aier, organised by the Nagaland Art Center in collaboration with IMC, on February 12 at IMC Hall, Supply Colony, Dimapur.

Moaso Aier is a visual artist, independent curator and musicologist, whose practice is rooted in Post-Impressionist methods and a deep engagement with nature, stated a DIPR report.

A former member of the International Guild of Realism Art, USA, she has exhibited nationally and internationally with her works held in private collections across India, the United States, Europe and Australia. Painting professionally since 2010, her work reflects a sustained commitment to craftsmanship and a timeless visual language.

Speaking as a special guest, Principal of NPTS, Aboli Metha, IPS described the paintings as powerful creations rich in stories and emotions that could be both seen and felt. She said the artworks were truly admirable and praised the artist for her God-given gift which was inspiring and commendable. She encouraged Moaso to keep using her talent to glorify God and to inspire and motivate others.

She also lauded the art gallery, established under the dynamic leadership of Ababe Ezung and Sentienla, for their consistent efforts in promoting and empowering talented youth by providing them with a platform to showcase their creativity and congratulated the founders for their noble initiative. She said that Moaso was not only a painter but an internationally acclaimed artist and expressed pride in witnessing the achievements of a woman excelling in the field of art.

The artist, Moaso Aier, in her address, expressed deep gratitude to the organisers for the opportunity to recreate and express a fragment of creation through art. She acknowledged friends and supporters, Sentienla and Ababe Ezung for their constant encouragement and for providing the creative freedom to curate the exhibition, describing the show as a “long time coming”. Sharing a personal anecdote from a visit to New York, the artist recalled encountering a sign at an art supply store that read, “The earth without art is just ‘eh’,” a message that was described as both thought-provoking and impactful. She said the phrase reinforced the idea that creativity enriches human life in countless ways, often without people realising it.

Emphasising the role of art in daily living, the speaker noted that people engage with art constantly—through clothing, music, and design—adding colour and meaning to life. The audience was encouraged to be more intentional in engaging with the arts by visiting museums and galleries, listening to music, experimenting with creative practices, and supporting local artists.

“A society that supports its creators is a society that thrives,” the artist remarked.

Ambassador of Nagaland Art Gallery, Sentienla Ezung in her address highlighted the centre’s long-standing commitment to showcasing a wide range of artists, from emerging talents to nationally and internationally recognised names. She stated that the gallery’s mission is to promote, educate, and create awareness through art, in line with the vision of the Imli Aier Memorial Centre.

She noted that the gallery takes pride in hosting artists from diverse backgrounds, citing examples of established artists as well as self-taught creators who bring their work with the hope of gaining exposure. “All of them are varied, but extremely talented,” she remarked, adding that the centre seeks to nurture raw talent by providing a platform for artistic growth. She also expressed gratitude to the audience for taking time out on a weekday afternoon to attend the exhibition, calling their presence a strong encouragement to artists and the arts community.

The exhibition collection on display brings together artworks that capture intimate moments of love and gentle solitude, set within familiar landscapes that evoke nostalgia and a sense of belonging.

Created through expressive brushwork and rich textures, the paintings explore the interplay of light and colour, with each piece conceived as a lasting and enduring addition to the space it inhabits.

The exhibition show will remain open daily from February 12 to 15, 2:00 pm onwards.

The programme concluded with a blessing from pastor, Dimapur Christian Fellowship, Daroga Pathar, Moatoshi Imsong.
