Tuensang, March 29 (MExN): Sao Chang College (SCC) celebrated its 50th Cultural Day on March 28 at the college multipurpose hall under the theme “Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow.”

The event brought together students, faculty, and community members in a vibrant showcase of cultural heritage and unity.

A press release from the SCC informed that the formal session featured a series of performances, beginning with Chishok Lamshok Chia’, who recently represented Nagaland at the 9th North East Youth Festival 2026 and secured second position.

This was followed by a theatrical presentation titled “A Tale of Ghonili and Inakha” by the SCC Cultural Club, and a rendition of the song Kheiyo by BA 4th Semester students.

One of the significant highlights of the event was the contribution made by the Chang Students’ Union, SCC, through the presentation of valuable materials for the college museum, symbolising its commitment to preserving heritage and supporting the institution’s growth, the release said.

In his keynote address, Dr Santosh Kumar Singh, Associate Professor, Department of English, SCC, stressed the importance of work culture, love, and rendering dedicated service to the nation, as well as the need to seize opportunities.

The success or failure of a country ultimately depends on the efforts of its individuals, he said.

Tradigraphy, a folk song performance by the Sochumers, and an ethnic show showcasing diverse tribes of Nagaland were also part of the session.

Meanwhile, the second session began with an ethnic cuisine competition, where participants from various tribes presented their traditional dishes.

It also featured folk dance performances representing the Chang, Khiamniungan, Sangtam, and Yimkhiung tribes.

Traditional games such as bamboo climbing, bamboo cutting, top spinning, and tug of war were also played during the session.

The 50th Cultural Day celebration stood as a testament to the rich cultural legacy of Nagaland and the enduring commitment of the college towards fostering unity, tradition, and cultural awareness among its students, the release added.
