Where’s Rs 9 crore for waste segregation plant: DUCCF

Dimapur | April 30

The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) has questioned the status of a waste segregation plant in Dimapur for which Rs 9 crore was reportedly sanctioned.

“Despite Rs 9 crore being sanctioned, the segregation plant is nowhere to be seen. Who is responsible for this? Who has misused these funds?” posed DUCCF President Zasivikho Zakiesato, speaking to the media in Dimapur on April 30.  He did not specify when, and under which government scheme or department the alleged missing fund was sanctioned.

Demanding accountability, he stated that an operational segregation plant would have reduced waste accumulation and created local employment.

Zakiesato also urged the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) to release pending funds for clearing clogged drains ahead of the monsoon.

He said that a district-level Drainage Committee had completed its assessments and forwarded the necessary reports to the NSDMA in January.

Identifying Medical Colony, United Colony, Kuda Village, Imkonglenden, and Niu colony as flood-prone areas, he questioned, “The drains are completely choked, and we can all see it. Are we waiting to get flooded?”

While acknowledging the limitations of the Dimapur Municipal Council, the DUCCF President urged the citizenry to stop throwing garbage directly into drains.

He requested colony chairmen and Gaonburas to issue strict orders within their respective jurisdictions prohibiting the practice.
