Have you ever been to this place called dissatisfaction? You eat something, but you’re not satisfied. You exercise, sweat, and push yourself, but somehow you’re still not satisfied. You scroll through social media, one post after another, one reel after another, and yet you end up unsatisfied. You don’t even know what’s wrong, so you turn on Netflix or other platforms to escape, but after a few hours you shut it down and realize, you’re still not satisfied. Then you try something else, and something else again, but that deep satisfaction never comes.
Do you know what you’re actually craving? It’s not another series, not another app, not another activity. You are craving spiritual food.
God Himself has ordained it: Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4). Bread may feed your body, entertainment may distract your mind, achievements may boost your ego, but none of these can satisfy your spirit.
The Thirst That Never Ends
No matter what you chase in this world, it cannot quench the thirst inside you. Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4:13: Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again.
You can take that phrase and write it over anything under the sun:
* Over every new game app.
* Over every Netflix series.
* Over every new gadget or innovation.
* Over every accomplishment you achieve.
The truth remains: Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again.
You can try them all, but they will not quench your thirst. You will thirst again. They will always leave you wanting more.
But then Jesus goes on in verse 14: But whoever drinks the water that I shall give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
Do you hear that? Jesus says the water He gives will not only quench your thirst, it will become a fountain inside you. He is speaking of the true satisfaction that only He can bring, a living water that never runs dry.
The Mirror That Reveals Jesus
God created us in such a way that we are fulfilled only through Him and His Word. And we know from John 1 that Jesus is the Word of God made flesh. When you feed on the Word, you are feeding on Christ Himself.
2 Corinthians 3:18 says: But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
The Word of God is described as a mirror. But this mirror is unlike any other. When you look into a regular mirror, you see yourself. But when you look into the mirror of God’s Word, you don’t see yourself, you see Jesus.
And here is where many miss it. They look at the Bible as a list of what you must do, what you must apply, what you must fix. But no, that’s not the focus. The Bible is not about you. It is about Jesus.
Every story whispers His name.
* Look at Joseph—rejected by his brothers, loved by his father, and became bread for the world. That is Jesus.
* Look at Ruth’s redeemer, Boaz—that is Jesus, our Kinsman Redeemer.
* Look at David—rejected and mocked, yet became king. That is Jesus, the eternal King.
The Bible from Genesis to Revelation is about Him.
And the more you behold Him in Scripture, the more the Spirit of God transforms you into His image. This is not something you do by striving, it happens as you keep looking at Jesus. You don’t even realize it, but the Spirit is at work, changing you from glory to glory.
Transformation by Beholding
Remember when Jesus walked on the water? The disciples shouted in fear, “It’s a ghost!” But Jesus said, Fear not. I Am.(The original Greek says Ego Eimi, “I Am”, the very name of God).
Peter replied, Lord, if it is You, let me come to You on the water. And Jesus said simply, Come.
As Peter kept his eyes fixed on Jesus, he walked supernaturally on the water. But the moment he shifted his eyes to the winds and waves, he began to sink.
Do you see the secret? There is no 5-step formula. No 7-step method. The power to walk above the storm is in beholding Jesus. The moment your eyes are on Him, you become like Him even in the midst of the storm.
Jesus in All the Scriptures
In Luke 24 we see another powerful truth. After His resurrection, Jesus walked with two disciples on the road to Emmaus. But their eyes were restrained they could not recognize Him. Jesus could have revealed Himself instantly, but He chose not to. Instead, from Moses through the Psalms, He expounded to them all the Scriptures concerning Himself.
Wow! His priority was not to show Himself physically, but to reveal Himself in the Word. Why? Because that is how He wants us to see Him today.
One day we will behold Him face to face, but until that day, His Word is the mirror that shows us who He is and what He has done. And as we behold Him there, the Spirit transforms us into His likeness.
The Living Water That Never Runs Dry
God created you in such a way that nothing else can fill you. Without Him, you will always remain restless and thirsty. Every worldly well, success, money, pleasure, entertainment will always run dry.
That’s why Jesus said, Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again.
But whoever drinks from Him will never thirst again. In fact, He promises that out of your belly will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38) Not a stagnant pond, not a temporary supply, but rivers of living water, flowing and overflowing with His life.
A Final View
So let me ask you today: Are you drinking from Jesus?
Or are you still running to the empty wells of the world, hoping they will quench your thirst?
Jesus is still inviting you: Whoever drinks the water I give will never thirst.
The question is not whether you are thirsty—we all are. The real question is: Where are you going to quench your thirst?
Only Jesus satisfies. Only His Word fills. Only His Spirit transforms. Everything else leaves you thirsty again.
So come, drink deeply from Him today and never thirst again.
