Why retirement age should be raised?

Retirement age for Government employees should definitely be raised, at least to 58 if not 60. The reasons are:

1.    Most of the states in India are having retirement age fixed at 58 and some even 60.

2.    All central employees retire at 60 only.

3.    There are lots of retirement cases every year that get filled up before they are brought to the notice of the public as reported recently by a local paper (Morung Express). NSF can do more in this area rather than having a rigid stand on the retirement age. No re-appointment under any circumstances even as consultants etc should be entertained.

4.    Students ultimately suffer when parents before they finish their education. This also leads to drop outs due to financial constraints. Hence there are two sides to the coin. Student bodies may claim it is for the benefit of unemployed youths, but on the other hand it is the students who suffer due to premature retirement of the parents as compared to other states.

5.    Age tempering of government employees should be very strictly monitored at every level and done periodically. Student organizations can also do their mite here.
