Why was NPF afraid to use the word resign: NPCC

Why was the NPF so afraid to use the word ‘resign’ for its legislators? If they want to use the word ‘sacrifice’ in-lieu of resign, so be it but we will see very soon how sincere and serious they are. Sacrifice should be the means before the solution and not the end after the solution. After the solution, it is no longer a sacrifice because the nature of the solution may be such that the constitution may be amended in any way to call off the current Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

It is pathetic as to the way the NPF media and press bureau had understood the prerogative and privilege of the elected members. There’s no dispute that governance is the prerogative and privilege of the house. However, in the issues of political nature as JLF resolution, it is the prerogative and privilege of the party. In any parliamentary democracy, the party is supreme. Elected members of all political parties are not above the party because they too are bound by the same party constitution. Party had given them the platform to get elected. It is the duty and responsibility of the elected members to uphold the political stand of the party within the house. The political stand of the NPF and Congress are different. It is logical then, that the Congress as a separate political party cannot endorse the political stand of the NPF.

In May 2012, the Congress delegation had already met the Central leaders for the same cause and received positive response from GoI. JLF resolution was adopted only on July 19, 2012. Even without JLF resolution, the Congress had done what it was expected and requested to do. It’s almost ten years that the NPF has been in power but till today no formal NPF delegation had met the Central leaders for solution. They can’t go to anybody in Delhi because they had betrayed almost all the national political parties.  NPF has no courage to take bold political decision on its own.

The NPF may have the illusion to believe the phrase “procedural lapses with no malafide intention” as the clean chit given by the High Power Committee and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly headed by none other than the brother of the accused. It doesn’t need complex common sense to understand that procedural lapses in itself was a serious breach of laid down govt. rules and regulations flouted by the department and that, the willful intention to defraud the state exchequer was in itself malafide in nature. If not the Home Minister who do the NPF think is morally responsible for lapses in Home department?

The sarcasm in the NPF’s statement on 33% reservation of seat for women in municipal and town councils was like rubbing salt on the wound that needs to be condemned by all, especially the women group. A political party having such a predetermined negative mindset/attitude can’t do justice to our women.

The NPF should not forget that Imkong L. Imchen was freed only on the intervention of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu as his admission of ignorance of Nepal Currency laws was a major diplomatic embarrassment to the Indian establishment.
