Mokokchung, October 8 (MExN): Mokokchung Forest Division in collaboration with Wildlife Wing Dimapur observed Wildlife Week celebration 2024 at Changdang village on October 7. The programme was attended by Village Council representatives from Lakhoni, Alongtaki, Changdang and Lizo model village.
The event was observed under the theme “Wildlife Conservation through Coexistence” to educate the villagers about the importance of wildlife protection and conservation.It aims to not only reduce conflicts between humans and wild animals but also to instil a sense of responsibility towards the environment for people to understand the importance of wildlife in maintaining ecological balance and the consequences.
N Orenthung Kikon, NCS, EAC Longchem graced the occasion and delivered a speech on the awareness of wildlife. He emphasised that the importance on conservation and to achieve co-existence between people and wildlife by living together in co-existence but at the same time acknowledge the critical challenges we face in conserving earth’s biodiversity and the ecosystem on which we depend.
The Wildlife Warden Dimapur, Tokaho Kinimi, IFS has encouraged the villagers to conserve the animal corridors for their safe movement and also reminded that the department is ready to work with the communities towards Wildlife Conservation. He stressed on peaceful co-existence between humans and wildlife in order to maintain the delicate balance that exist in nature. In context of wildlife-human conflicts, he appealed to the community to reach out to the department and to allow the department in helping them out. The program was chaired by Imkongmar, Dy Ranger, invocation was pronounced by T Leim, Pastor, Changdang Baptist Church.
I Bendang, Chairman Changdang village gave welcome address and shared word of gratitude to everyone for gracing the programme.
