Wildlife Week was celebrated in Niroyo, Yanthamo, and Phiro villages today. The event was organised by the Wokha Forest Division as part of the Nagar Van Yojana. The event saw participation from members of the Village Council Committee (VCC), women’s organisations, church groups, youth, students, and the Village Level Organisation (VLO).
During the programme, Grace Kikon emphasised the importance of wildlife conservation through coexistence. She urged communities to discourage hunting and to embrace a collective responsibility for wildlife preservation, highlighting the vital role communities play in fostering harmonious coexistence to ensure effective conservation efforts.
Abeno Ovung, a Planning and Livelihood expert with the NFMP, addressed the causes of human-animal conflict and offered strategies for mitigation, underscoring effective measures for conflict management.
Mhonyani Kikon, Supervisor of the FNGO, chaired the proceedings and the programme concluded with remarks from Ethel Odyuo, Team Leader of Natural Nagas, who reinforced the significance of collaborative efforts in wildlife conservation.
