Will not allow alteration in work order of Sanuorü bridge: TYO

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 21 (MExN): Tsieramia Youth Organization (TYO) on Friday rubbished what it termed as certain rumour doing the round that it was obstructing the construction of the bridge at Sanuorü.

In a press statement, the TYO president, Neirükuolie Yhome and general secretary, Vitshu Vizo clarified that neither the TYO nor the Tsieramia Council or the land owners had ever obstructed or prevented the contractor in starting the construction of the bridge.

It stated that at the time of floating tender for the said work, some youths of Tsieramia community in their own individual capacity requested for the contract work but the work was not allocated to them as they did not possess the requisite qualifications.

On learning that, they communicated to the Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B) that they do not have any objection to any qualified contractor getting the contract but for the contractor to start work at the earliest with accordance to the specifications and to finish the work within the stipulated time.

Accordingly, the work order was allotted to a contractor in July 2016. However, it has been 2 (two) years since the work order has been issued but work has barely began. Further, the TYO expressed concern on the report that the government was planning to construct a steel bridge instead of the specifications given in July 2016 work order.

Therefore, the TYO has demanded that the bridge has to be constructed as per the specified criteria and no alterations in the work order issued in July 2016 would be allowed.

While offering its full cooperation, the TYO has appealed the government and the contractor to start work at the earliest.
