‘Will not allow new groups  to function in our jurisdiction’

14 Tribal Hobos of Nagaland against factionalism

Kohima, October 23 (MExN): The 14 Tribal Hohos of Nagaland on Friday asserted that no new group or faction would be allowed to function in their respective jurisdictions.

In a press release issued by its media cell, the 14 Tribal Hohos of Nagaland stated that when unity is the call of the day, further split or differences must not take place among the factions. “…the 14 tribes will not tolerate the split among the factions and as such any new groups will not be allow to function in our respective jurisdictions,” the statement read.

The release stated that Nagas have struggled for more than seven decades but did not lose hope. Nagas scattered across states have come to realize the need for peaceful settlement, the 14 Tribal Hohos of Nagaland said, while appreciating the agreement signed between the Naga Political Groups (NPGs).

Alter many years of attempt, the initiative taken by NSCN (IM) and thereafter the 7 NNPGs for holding peace talks with the Government of India had seen progress for the early settlement of the Naga issue, the 14 Tribal Hohos of Nagaland stated.

“As such, the Naga Tribal Hohos, all civil societies and the government of Nagaland appeals to all the factions to come in one accord to the negotiating table for the peaceful settlement,” it added.

They referred to the former Interlocutor R N Ravi’s statement that ‘integration and independence are not to be considered, however, the agreement will cover the Nagas in Manipur, Arunachal and Nagas in Assam’.

“There may be many differences in opinions amongst the negotiating parties but those things should not sabotage the negotiation with Government of India (GoI) for early solution,” the statement read.

All the factions (NPGs) should willingly come to the negotiating table taking advantage of the present development of the all political group of the Nagaland government who have also come together to pave a way for early solution, they opined, adding that it is the desire of all the Naga civil societies.

The 14 Tribal Hohos of Nagaland cautioned that if peaceful settlement cannot be implemented at the earliest, the Naga youths and younger generation will be doomed to “a very bleak future.”
