WILL THE PRESENT CRISIS WITHIN NAGA HOHO AFFECT THE NAGA PROGRESS TOWARDS IT POLITICAL AND HISTORICAL RIGHTS? WHY?

Some of those who voted YES had this to say:

•    Yes, it will have an impact on the Naga struggle for their rights. It may not affect the present peace process, but to the outside world it will have a huge impact since it shows how divided and tribal Nagas are.

•    Yes, as per the given situation within NH there is a possibility of adversely affecting the ongoing Naga political dialogue between NSCN (IM) and GOI as NH has been projected as the voice of the Nagas. Now with the impending crisis within Naga Hoho even Delhi govt will be wary and worried. Its sad that NH has lost its credibility and validity with departure of CNTC. IN such a situation APO has to play an important role so that an understanding and trust is re-established among the Naga family so that Naga political solution is expedited.

•    Yes. Without unity, there is no nation.

  •    Yes, because it shows how petty our leaders are. The Rongmei issue is not a very big issue on which we destroy ourselves. It shows there is an ulterior motive.

•    Larger tribes who are suppose to lead others with magnanimity like that of an elder brother are behaving like a spoilt child wanting all wanting all the chocolate unwilling to share with his siblings. Leaders representing a tribe should be more mature, least it bring shame to the whole tribe.

•    Yes. This has shown our immaturity and that our leaders are not capable of solving our problems without flexing our muscles.

•    Yes. Because NH's area of operation, at least in theory, encompass all the Nagas. This fiat-acompli nature of the cultural jurisdiction will naturally be the talk's interest

•    Yes. Why need so many organisations among such a few people in such a small state? If the people cant stand each other by their language, area, clan, community, tribe etc, then I dont see much hope in the political and historical rights. Not because of the Naga Hoho, but the mentality of the people in not accepting the mandate of the leaders nor the leaders listening to what the people really wish for. Naga societies are cropping up like mushrooms in every corners that big organisation like Naga Hoho has become obsolete and a tool of the government. Useless and defunct.

•    Yes. This shows the corruption and nepotism of naga people in general

•    Yes. Let us all agree that all have joined for self promotion and social status not for the sake of Nagas. There is money to be made in this organisation for many of them are working for politicians. The truth is they are not there for any altruistic purpose. Now with the ugly head of tribalism creeping in, dont be suprised if Naga society is disintegrated along tribal, village line. so the present crisis will be big setback to political and historical rights of Nagas. Let us remember that more clever and manipulative outsiders are waiting for this to happen.

•    Yes. The present crisis should be an eye opener with positive impact. A Naga couple (from any tribe, village or district)living in the United States of America (USA), if their children are born there, they become citizens of USA by birth and enjoy all the privileges like any other citizens. But in the present Nagaland, other communities who are not Nagas may legally have more privileges than a Naga born in Nagaland because he or she belong to this and that tribe. Such discrimination  should cease. I am sorry and I write this to our shame.

Some of those who voted NO had this to say:

•    No. The Naga issue is much bigger than Naga Hoho. But there is no denying that in front of the world we have exposed how disunited Nagas have become. Its a shame that the differences could not be solved within the kitchen. Instead the leaders decided to wash our dirty linen in front of the whole world.

•    Naga Hoho is primarily an NGO to oversee our social concerns. Naga political issue is not a social matter to be decided by Naga Hoho but by the federating tribal bodies and therefore to say that the crisis within Naga Hoho will affect the progress of political talks is figment of imagination and at best a conjecture.

•    No. Its not related to political issue.

•    Actually, the present "leaders" in the Naga Hoho have lost their independence and neutrality. So they have become more of an obstacle to the Naga progress.

•    That conflict is an internal affair but Nagaland has only one Assembly that stands with one political and historical rights.

•    No...It has nothing to do with Naga political issue. NAGA Hoho never represent all Nagas like ENPO, Nagas of Myanmar, AP, Assam. Crisis between NH and CNTC is a kitchen problem whereas Naga Political issue is a national one.

•    No. When the naga hoho also does not know where the political solution are heading. BTW the word naga is the most misused and abused word today and no sensible person can accept the term naga anymore in its originality

•    The two are completely different issue and so it will never hamper the other because of other.

•    No.. Where in the peace talks have they inked and agreed dat disassociating from Naga Hoho will effect the peace process. Tiz is a lame excuse cited to brainwash Naga people because they are losing their credibility in the eyes of the people. Like it or not Naga hoho is currently facing Identity Crisis!

•    No, naga political issue is between NPG n India but the issue is within naga tribes only.

•    A big "NO"!!! Because Naga Hoho does not represent all Naga tribes, meaning 50% of the Naga tribes don't know who are Naga hoho and what they do!

•    I think the issue between three hohos and NH is purely of Rongmei recognition as an Indigenous tribe of Nagaland and not for political and historical right.

•    No. The recent crisis has nothing to do with historical and political rights of nagas as a whole. It is just a reaction to the political manipulation of a certain politician heading the govt. in creating his own vote bank at the expense of the people in nagaland.

•    It is for the better. Naga Hoho, the apex body of all Nagas is not tribe-centric. Even Kukis, Dimasas and Garos residing in all Naga inhabited areas should become part of the apex body to strengthen the political rights of all. Could we afford to remain divided on tribal lines? How long? Singapore, which is a community comprising mainly of  Chinese, Malay and Indians after a long deliberation, realized that that the country must have a population of at least 4 million to stay ahead and combat with other larger countries, economically and politically. A food for thought for naga leaders on how, people of different communities live together and strengthened their economy and their general well-being like education and health. I appeal to Naga Hoho, state government and leaders of national workers to THINK BEYOND CONFLICTS. Lately, only internal conflicts has become our stable food.

•    No. Nagas have a goal which is beyond tribal conflicts and petty statehood politics. Our future envisaged by great leaders like A.Z. Phizo, Isaac Chisi Swu and others is to reclaim our God given rights, historically and politically. Any obstacle caused by any individual or community to disrupt us in achieving our goal must be sternly dealt with. India, which was and is our main adversary has relaxed it's rigid stand after more than fifty years of armed confrontation. So, who is an individual or one or two tribal community that blocks the call for unity to usher in peace for all? Noted Naga activist Niketu Iralu stated that the present statehood is an illegitimate child. It is conceived by India to divide the Nagas. Younger generation should not be confused. Naga Hoho, the most esteemed organisation should not kowtow to inimical forces.

•    No, Even if some tribes want to stay aloof to their shame,  Nagas are one. Nobody can and would change that. If the people in the Jalukie area do not want to welcome their kin from Manipur and Assam, nobody will force. But places like Dimapur and Kohima are for all. Even in the 1950s, there were few population in Dimapur. Different tribes started coming from different districts. Four hundred years ago, there was a Dimasa kingdom but the Ahoms drove them away. For centuries it was deserted place, a hunting ground for Nagas after the harvest. If some tribes do not want other Nagas to come to their area, then NO DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES like medical college, hospital and Universities should be shed up in these districts. It will do more justice to shift to some less developed districts for all development works, even if some political settlement come up with India and Myanmar later. BANGLADESHIS are different. They are not going to change. They will only alter the demography and religion of the state. Your children will be called with some strange names along with a Naga surname. Read the books of Ezra and Nehemiah to realize the danger. Your children will speak the language of Ashdod. The sooner Nagas understand and surmise THE REAL CRISIS, it is better for all. We can learn a big lesson from AKM, the students union based in Mokokchung. What do you gain from Naga verses Naga? What is your contribution to Nation Building? Are you just a spectator and waiting to get the first opportunity, if any?? Dear brother, join hands for common good. Kulnalim.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:

•    It is both Yes and No. We know that the Naga Hoho is made up of tribes, so even if the Naga Hoho is not there, it will not change anything. At the same time, the Government of India will use this as a reason to divide the Nagas even more and to stall the process.

•    Why don't morung express ask for the opinion or stand of all the honourable Legislatures of the Nagaland and Assembly on the issue of recognising or de recognising Rongmai naga tribe as indigenous to Nagaland state or not. Election is coming and we must know their stand. Many tribes will follow if this is not de recognised. Therefore each and every MLA should be asked by journalists or asked to give written in your opinion poll in your esteemed paper.
