KOHIMA, JUNE 8 (MExN): The 3rd Annual Wipro Earthian Regional Awards and Green Exchange program was held at the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) auditorium in Kohima, drawing student teams and teachers from four districts of Nagaland. The event, aimed at encouraging environmental awareness and sustainability education in schools, was organized by the Wipro earthian Nagaland Chapter in collaboration with the Community Educational Centre Society (CECS) and the District Education Office, Kohima.

Delivering the inaugural address, CECS Director Subonenba Longkumer emphasized the significance of environmental education among youth, stating that “consistent learning and small steps at the school level can bring about long-term positive change in society.”

Senior SDEO Kohima, Patricia Vizo, welcomed the participants and lauded the efforts of students and teachers engaged in the Earthian program. She acknowledged the enthusiasm and dedication shown by schools in implementing sustainability projects.

During the felicitation ceremony, three schools—Vision Higher Secondary School, Dimapur; Government High School, Chandmari, Kohima; and Rajeshwari Karuna School, Tuli—were recognized for their exemplary work in sustainability education. Student teams from the award-winning schools shared insights and takeaways from their year-long environmental initiatives.

Principal Director of School Education, Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, delivered the keynote address. He highlighted the role of experiential learning in shaping environmentally conscious citizens and urged schools to continue fostering such engagement beyond the classroom.

The event also featured an Environmental Sustainability Exhibit, inaugurated following the award presentations. Six participating schools showcased models, charts, and visual presentations on topics such as waste management, water conservation, and biodiversity. The exhibits demonstrated the students’ practical understanding of environmental challenges and solutions.

The day-long program witnessed the participation of more than 100 students and 32 teachers, serving as a vibrant platform for the exchange of ideas and collaborative learning.
