Kohima, AUGUST 28 (MExN): Good news and a Condom Vending Machine are on their way to Nagaland. The latter, being a first of its kind in this state, will give way to easy access to condoms for the common Naga citizen at a “minimum controlled rate”. This task was delivered by a four-member delegation representing Legislators’ Forum on AIDS (LFA) Nagaland led by the Minister of Health, Kuzholuzo Nienu, also the convener of LFA Nagaland, after their visit to Bangkok from August 21-24, 2012.
The Machine, however, was donated to Nagaland on a trial-basis by the Thai Minister of Health. The Naga team has been assured that its utility could be enhanced once the people of Nagaland learn to access and utilize the Machine, said a note received today from the State Coordinator of the LFA.
The LFA team, while exchanging notes with Thailand doctors and administrators on expertise and manpower, also discussed the possibility of treating patients in hospitals in Thailand instead of in New Delhi, Mumbai or Chennai, which are much further away and more expensive to reach.
The Thailand Ministry, as per the note, has assured the exploration of such a possibility.
LFA Nagaland, formed for deliberation on the issue of HIV/AIDS, also discussed the possibility of cross-border trade between Thailand and Nagaland through Myanmar. The willingness for such a possibility was expressed by the Thais but put the onus on cooperation and coordination among neighboring states.
The LFA delegation visiting Bangkok also consisted of Ralanthung Yanthan, Deputy Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly and treasurer of LFA, the State Coordinator of LFA Nagaland and the Special Secretary to Deputy Speaker of NLA.
