Kohima | February 14
The campaign kick-off cum rally of Dr Neikesalie (Nicky) Kire, NDPP candidate for 9th Kohima town AC was held at PWD junction, Kohima on February 14.
During the campaign, Neiphiu Rio, Star campaigner of NDPP announced that the ULB elections will be held in March where women reservation will come to place. ‘The ULB will provide more independence for the colonies where its elected members will decide on the taxation issues, and where the taxes will be spent,’ Rio stated.
Earlier he said, “BJP is very powerful. Yet, they have bestowed their respect on the Nagas, and I am grateful for that. Delhi trusts us, so there should not be any rifts among us. Our alliance is totally BJP-NDPP alliance. We feel that our alliance will be stronger this time. And it will depend on our party workers.”
While clarifying on the ticket distribution where some former candidates were denied the party ticket, Rio also sought forgiveness to those displeased candidates.
Rio spoke extensively on the NDPP campaign manifestos highlighting focus on women empowerment and gender equality. A positive outcome, Rio pointed, is the increasing support extended by men to the women candidates. “We have big plans for the Youth and Sports. We remain committed to meritocracy and transparency,” added Rio.
“This Assembly is going to discuss and decide on major issues,” stated Rio announcing that the new government will handle important issues such as delimitation, Naga political settlement and G20 summit. He informed that Kohima has been accepted as a host city for the G20 summit which will hosts over 1000 international delegates. The summit is likely to be held in the first week of April in Kohima. On delimitation, Rio reminded the crowd that more MLA seats, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha seats will increase. With the Naga political solution coming to a close, Rio implied that the new government will redefine the Naga future.
Rio expressed optimism that there will be increasing avenues and opportunities for the Naga youth, students, women and farmers.
Short speeches were also delivered by Menuovilie Kesiezie, Convenor, Campaign committee, and Khrielie Üsou, President, BJP Kohima district.
