THE BSNL has assured that the Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) service will be made functional in all the villages by the end of 2006. This was agreed upon between the Northeast Students Organization (NESO) and NSF with BSNL authorities. However, all villages will be required to sign a mandate for payment of bills against the concerned village council/panchayat bank accounts.

NESO Chairman, Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjya and General Secretary, NSN Lotha in a press communiqué further informed that it was agreed upon that the regularization process for the controversial appointments of 150 posts under Group C & D categories will be put to halt before further completion of scrutinization of the employees’ status of domicile.

The meeting with the BSNL further agreed upon that four more BTS will be put to service for the improvement of Cellular service and to reduce the network congestion in Kohima and Dimapur by the end of February 2006.

At the same time, NESO also informed that landline telephones will be disconnected for non-payment of bill only after receiving a personal call from the concerned BSNL official. “In case of genuine reason for late payment, a grace period of seven days will be given to the subscribers”, NESO informed.

“In case of faulty telephone lines, ensure that a written complaint or call complaint through the number 198 is made. Get an acknowledgement receipt or number. If the line error is not attended within seven days then the subscribers are entitled to claim a rebate of the days when the telephone is not in use”, subscribers of BSNL were informed by NESO.

NESO further conveyed that all students who could not submit their SPS forms due to non-acceptance of the forms by the BSNL in various districts to repost the matter either to the NSF or DNSU office before February 15 for further necessary action.

NESO also expressed gratitude to BSNL authorities for their cooperation in meeting the various demands. “A special appreciation goes to Ashok Golas, the CGM of Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh under whose able leadership, the negotiation between the BSNL and NESO was brought to a successful end”, the NESO communiqué stated.
