DIMAPUR, MAY 21 (MExN): The World Meetei Council (WMC) organised an all CSO meet at Rajbari, Manipuri Basti, Guwahati on May 21 to discuss on the ongoing issues of Manipur.
WMC Chairman, Heigrujam Nabashyam was present as the Chief Guest in the meeting. The CSO leaders from various organizations of Assam were Ngangam Baldev, Yengkhom Upendra, Khemamayum Dilip, Usham Dipak, Irabati Devi, RK Ranjit, Karam Punshi, Gourav Sharma, Y Dhan Singh, Lourembam Madan and Irungbam Hari.
The meeting resolved to demand that the Government of India consider three points agenda to resolve the conflict in Manipur.
It said that the Meetei community needs constitutional protection as provided in ST provision; demanded implement NRC in Manipur at the earliest; and protect indigenous people against “atrocities meted out by immigrants in Manipur.”
The leaders further condemned destruction of ancient Meetei temples; condemned the demand for separate administration by the 10 Kuki MLAs; and condemned the demand to abrogate SOO by the Government of India with Kuki militants.
The leaders meanwhile said that the Mizoram Chief Minister should not interfere in the internal affairs of Manipur. The further asked political parties not to play politics with the present situation in Manipur; and urged the media “not to portray victims as perpetrators.”
