DIMAPUR, JUNE 28 (MExN): The Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) on Saturday spelled out the reason for its formation, stating that the body was officially constituted on October 14, 2024, to bring together various Naga tribal youth organisations under a common platform to uphold the safety, security, rights, and welfare of the people.
In a joint press statement, the WNYF said that in any democratic and civil society, every citizen has the constitutional right to freely associate, organise, and form bodies that work for the well-being of the people. “The concept of unity is the opposite of mushrooming organisations, as it consolidates numerous individual organisations under one banner,” it stated.
Recognising the pressing need to unite and collaborate in upholding the true spirit of Naga brotherhood, various Naga tribal youth organisations—along with supporting bodies—came together to form the WNYF in the erstwhile undivided Dimapur.
Each of these member organisations is officially endorsed by their respective tribal apex bodies in the region (with one unit awaiting final endorsement), and have come together in full consensus to represent their communities within the WNYF framework.
While WNYF does not claim any administrative jurisdiction, the Front clarified that its area of concern includes all regions inhabited by its member communities in the undivided Dimapur area. These regions, it noted, cannot be exclusively represented by any one tribe but reflect the diversity of Naga society as a whole.
An official Executive Council—comprising the presidents of all member organisations—currently functions as the Nomination Committee, entrusted with constituting WNYF’s full leadership structure. The committee remains open and welcoming to any other Naga tribal youth organisations yet to join, with the aim of fostering inclusivity and unity.
“We firmly believe that unity requires not only words but action, commitment, and courage,” the statement read. “While we remain steadfast in our vision and collective resolve, we also extend our open hand to our fellow brothers and sisters to come forward and be part of this common platform for the betterment, safety, and dignity of our people.”
The joint statement was appended by the Presidents of the following member organisations- Zeliang Youth Organisation Dimapur, Rengma Youth Organisation Dimapur, Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation, Diphupar Naga Youth Organisation, Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation, Diphupar Ao Youth Forum and Lotha Youth Organisation Dimapur.
