Woes of Food for Work Programme

For the interest of the public I would like to highlight through this column about how in the name of developmental programme and scheme for the general welfare of the public, the public itself is cheated at the end. Last year on December 2, 2005 one programme in the name of ‘Food for work’ under District Rural Development Agency Scheme in Senapati District Head Quarters had approved, where 200 (Two hundred) bags of rice of 50 kgs each, worth Rs. One Lakh had been taken out from the Senapati godown by an employee of District Fisheries Officer, Senapati District HQ. The record itself is the proof for this.

From reliable source, no sooner had the rice bags being taken out from the godown 100 bags had gone and lost itself in Kangpokpi Bazar. Another 20% were said to have been given away to one organization. The remaining rice bags have also disappeared into the thin air. It will be wise of the concerned authority to check whether the awarded programmes have been implemented. What areas and places were covered the under the approved programme/scheme. What makes us curious is not how the rice bags disappeared but how and under whose name such essential commodities were taken out from the godown. Under the name of such developmental programme the general public have been cheated time & again. And it is an open secret that such malpractices is going on in Senapati District by half of the Govt. employees and some self styled public leaders.

It is high time that the concerned authorities look into the matter without further delay & take up stern action against those involved in order to avoid another scam in future.
