DIMAPUR, DEC 29 (MExN): The people of Hovukhu though enjoying the facilities and developments brought by the government have woes of their own. Hovukhu, a village in Niuland Area with a total household of around 129 was formed back in 1972 and adopted by the HUDCO as model village in 1999.
The village enjoys all the facilities like water supply, rest house constructed by the Forest Department, water dam for irrigation purpose by the Irrigation Department, electricity etc except road; the main life line that connects the people and bring developmental activities. The state highway (Niuland-Changi-Sanis road) that passes through Hovukhu looks more like a river of sands than road and it has no proper bridge, which make the life of the villagers difficult. The village has no health care centre or dispensary either and the nearest health care centre is five kms away from the village, which cause immense hardship for the people during emergencies. ‘Road has been one of the major problem for the people of the village which during summer becomes like a paddy field with all the sands and water’ said a student. He further said, ‘Roads are the lifeline of the people so the first and the foremost thing that the village need is good road’. Khuwuto Shikhu, Village Gaon Bura said that the government has approved to construct the road under Non-Lapsable Fund some years back. He also said that Irrigation Department after the construction of dam has planned to construct a Hydropower.
It may be mentioned that the government though has approved the construction of the road, so far nothing has been implemented in reality, which has caused a lot of hardship for the people of Hovukhu.
