Wokha: Adult Literacy Campaign empowers lives in Englan Range

Wokha, March 22 (MExN): The felicitation programme for the students of the Adult Literacy Campaign of Englan Range was held at the Cultural Hall Yikhum on March 22. The event was organised by the Englan Yingsung Women Livelihood Thrift & Credit Co-operation Society Ltd. in convergence with the Wokha District Administration, DHEW under BBBP and the Department of School Education under the PRI-CBO Convergence Project led by NSRLM, stated a DIPR report. 

In the programme, Rozy Sangtam, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Wokha praised the dedication of the learner's and underscored the importance of education in navigating life’s challenges. She encouraged the students to apply their new skills in practical scenarios and assured the administration’s continued support for adult literacy initiatives.

Chichanthung L Ezung, Gender Specialist, DHEW, who graced the felicitation programme, congratulated the 35 successful candidates out of the 65 enrolled students. He encouraged those who did not pass to continue their learning journey, emphasizing that education has no age limit.

Ezung also commended the teachers and the organizing committee for their dedication. 

Following the felicitation, the teachers presented an overview of the students’ performance, showcasing their progress in reading, writing, and basic comprehension. The presentation reflected the remarkable transformation achieved over the 3-month basic literacy course. Some students confidently read passages, wrote short sentences, and demonstrated their ability to identify and pronounce words correctly.

A student representative expressed gratitude on behalf of all learners. They thanked the organizing committee and their teachers for imparting knowledge and providing invaluable learning resources. The representative spoke about the challenges of returning to learning as adults and the joy of overcoming those obstacles. They also acknowledged the continuous support from family members and encouraged fellow students to remain committed to learning.

Nzanbemo Patton, BPM, NSRLM congratulated the students and highlighted the importance of community involvement in literacy programs. He reaffirmed NSRLM’s commitment to expanding similar initiatives across the district.

Zajano Kithan, Adult Literacy Campaign Teacher shared her experiences as a teacher, applauding the determination and perseverance of the students.

A Subenthung Odyou, Chairman, Yikhum Village appreciated the organizing committee’s efforts and urged the government to sustain the program for greater community impact. He recommended further courses focusing on basic arithmetic and practical financial literacy.

S. Zubeni Odyuo, Vice President of EYWLT & CCS Ltd delivered the welcome note while President EYWLT & CCS Ltd proposed the vote of thanks.
