Wokha | May 15
The ongoing anti-drug movement in Wokha district has reportedly yielded positive results, according to president of the Lotha Youth Hoho (LYH), Mharomo V Murry.
The youth body, through its media cell, informed that an alleged drug peddler identified as Mhathung was apprehended by the Tsumang Youth Hoho during a routine checking drive conducted on May 14.
The Hoho alleged that the same individual had previously been found involved in drug peddling on three separate occasions. The LYH further informed that the accused is currently absconding and added that he has been barred from entering Wokha with effect from Monday.
Highlighting the progress of the ‘Drug-Free Wokha’ movement, Murry stated that several positive outcomes have already been witnessed. According to him, some individuals allegedly involved in drug peddling have voluntarily approached the Hoho and assured that they would stop selling drugs.
He also informed that several drug users have enrolled themselves in detoxification and rehabilitation centres. Appreciating the support of the rehabilitation centres, he encouraged other drug users to come forward, register themselves, and seek rehabilitation.
Murry informed that the Youth Hoho has been conducting meetings with different colonies across the district and has so far completed interactions with six colonies. Appreciating the cooperation extended by the colonies, he appealed for continued public support in strengthening the anti-drug movement.
Expressing gratitude, the LYH president thanked Deputy CM Yanthungo Patton and the Lotha Hoho for extending support to the movement. He also acknowledged the support of various civil society organisations and churches that have stood alongside the youth body in its campaign against substance abuse.
At the same time, he issued a stern warning to those still involved in the illegal drug trade, cautioning that they would not be able to evade action indefinitely.
