WOKHA, APRIL 28 (MExN): Backdropped by the Pork Butcher Union Dimapur shutting business in protest against the Assam government’s reported temporary ban on transportation of live pigs through the state of Assam, the Pig Union Dealer Wokha (PUDW) has taken a similar stand. According to the PUDW, it decided to stop importing “Assam local pigs” beginning April 29 in support of its Dimapur counterpart. The import discontinuation was attributed to rising rate of pigs in Assam as a result of the Assam government’s pork transit ban, which took effect on March 13. While it warned of stern action on butchers in Wokha defying the decision, it appealed to the Nagaland state government to address the issue at the earliest. The PUDW further requested the public for cooperation and bear with the inconvenience until a solution is reached.
