WOKHA, OCTOBER 13 (MExN): The District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) Wokha has set November 15, 2026, as the deadline for completion of the Wokha–Merapani road project, following a review of progress by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) on October 13.

The monthly DPDB meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Wokha, chaired by Advisor and DPDB Chairman Mhathung Yanthan, accompanied by MLA Mhonbemo Humtsoe and co-chaired by DPDB Vice Chairman and Deputy Commissioner K Mhathung Tsanglao.

During the meeting, NHIDCL officials presented updates on maintenance works along the Wokha–Merapani road, including drainage clearance, jungle cutting and pothole filling. Yanthan directed the engineers and contractors to maintain strict quality standards and ensure proper workmanship. NHIDCL assured the board that the project would be completed by November 15, 2026.

The board also discussed poor signal reception of All India Radio Wokha and resolved to appeal to higher authorities for a “full-fledged upgradation” of the station. The Education Department presented a PowerPoint highlighting challenges facing government schools, including low enrolment attributed largely to rural-to-urban migration, infrastructure deficiencies and systemic issues.

The meeting also discussed upcoming departmental sports events, with an emphasis on participation and coordination. Yanthan stressed the importance of regular attendance at DPDB meetings and directed all Sub-Divisional Officers, Block Development Officers and Border Magistrates to ensure consistent participation.

The meeting began with a review of the previous month’s agendas and the progress made on them.
