Wokha, December 12 (MExN): The District Administration Wokha organized a one day seminar for village functionaries, NGOs and civil organizations under Beti Bachao Bet Padhao 2018 on December 12 at Town Hall, Wokha. The seminar focused mainly on giving awareness to the GBs in the district. More than 160 GBs attended the seminar, stated a DIPR report. SDO (C) Wokha, Chonpenthung Ezung, while addressing the GBs said this scheme which is an initiative of the Prime Minister of India was launched in the month of October 2018. The SDO (C) stated that the main aim of the seminar is to sensitize the GBs about the importance of girl child and educate on the importance of maintaining a balanced male and female child sex ratio.
He also informed that many activities and programmes have been conducted since the launch of the scheme to create awareness among the general public. “This is one such initiative involving the GBs and they have a great role and responsibility in creating awareness.”
Urging the gathering to give equal importance to both male and female child, the SDO (C) said women’s decision and views should also be taken in to consideration because women have the ability to contribute towards the progress of the community. He also expressed happiness that in our community, equal opportunities are given to both male and female child and encouraged them to continue to support them to make them a productive member of the society.
President Wokha GBs Association speaking during the seminar assured all possible help and support for the success of the scheme. Pledge in support of girl child was taken by all the participants which was read out by LDA, DC office Wokha, Renbeni Ovung. Vote of thanks was delivered by EAC, Wokha Riku Khutso.
Later in the day, a seminar on ‘Strengthening & Reorientation of Customary Laws and Practices’ with special highlight on Women & Customary Laws under Article 371 A’ under BBBP scheme was held at Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall, Wokha.
