Wokha, March 10 (MExN): Mini Marathon in celebration of International Women’s Day was held on March 8 at Wokha. The event was organized by District Administration in collaboration with Social Welfare department, Wokha under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), SVEEP campaign and Poshan Abhiyan.


The race was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon (IAS) from local ground Wokha. The mini marathon was held under two category – male and female, where around 600 students from different schools took part in the race.


DC while addressing the students on the significance of Women’s Day said as students whatever principle and basics they gain during this forming age will always remain with them throughout their life. He urged them not to discriminate girls but show respect, be polite and humble with them because they are as equal as boys. “There has to be gender balance and gender equality in all sphere of life,” he added.


The DC also appealed to the students to take pledge from their parents not to take money and exercise their franchise with outmost fairness during the forthcoming Parliamentary Election 2019. Under female category, Yilobeni, Wonchibeni, Senchano, Nzanhorni and Thechano all from DBHSS were adjudged the winners. In the male category, Amos (SMBS), Nchumbemo (DBHSS), Chumbemo (DBHSS), Chonben (Mt.Tiyi College) and Yanpothung (Mt.Tiyi College) secured the first, second, third, fourth and fifth respectively. Certificates and cash award were given to the winners. VVPAT demonstration was also done at the flagging off venue.
