Wokha Post Poll Violence Goes On Unabated

Even after two weeks after the poll results were declared in Nagaland State Assembly election, Wokha Post poll violence goes on unabated and continues to burn from post poll violence till date with no sign of returning to normalcy.

Despite appeals and efforts from various frontal organizations, district administrations, Police, no efforts seems to be enough to contain the post poll violence taking place in Wokha town, the headquarter of the Lothas committed by few disgruntles and frustrated political activists.

On Monday last, 11th March around 10.00 pm, two houses in Wokha town were completely burned down causing immense hardships and difficulties to the families before the very eye of the district administration and police. In the first instance, on 11th March 2013 the residence of N. Asao Tsanglao of Elumyo village located at Orchid colony- Wokha town, was completely burned down to ashes by NPF supporters of Wokha village. On the same night, another house belonging to Tsentso Yanthan of Humtso village located at Upper NST colony, Wokha was also attacked and burned to ashes destroying everything including important documents, students’ books and even school uniforms simply because they exercise their universal adult franchise as enshrined in the constitution of India.

And on 10th March, 2013 three houses belonging to Mhonsao Humtsoe at NST colony, Likonthung Ezung of Longsa village residing at Upper NST Wokha town and Chichamo Tsanglao residence located at Mt. Tiyi colony Wokha town were totally vandalized by the NPF supporters of Wokha village in a simultaneous attack with no fault of theirs.

In view of these shocking developments, the Longsa Youth Forum, Dimapur (LYFD) while condemning the unfortunate incidents related to the post poll violence in Wokha town has asked the law enforcing agencies to take immediate step to arrest the culprits and book them under
relevant section of the IPC.

Stating that few disgruntles and frustrated political activists are taking the law and order situation in Wokha town in their own hand disrespecting the authorities just because they claimed to be the land owners, the LYFD has asked the district administration, police, frontal organizations like Kyong Hoho, Kyong Eloe Hoho, Kyong Students Unions etc to immediately intervened and stop such un-warranted activities like burning houses, vandalizing and attacking individuals in the name of politics.

The LYFD in a emergency meeting strongly advocate that the Wokha town belongs all the Lothas and not to any particular village and that the residents whether Lothas, Semas, Angamis, Aos or any other tribes are staying in their own purchased lands and residences and have the right to live freely in their own environment.

The LYFD also further resolved unanimously to support the timely intervention of Longsa village youth organization (LVYO) efforts and steps to subdue the tense situation in wokha town and also make sincerely appeal to the district administration to compensate the losses incurred to the affected families at the earliest.
