The Wokha Town Council (WTC) inaugurated Open Market, WTC Daily Market at the New Market site on August 6, with Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, NCS (Retd.), MLA of 38 Wokha A/C, gracing the occasion as the special guest.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Humtsoe expressed gratitude to the state government for its support and acknowledged the collective efforts that led to the establishment of the WTC after over two decades of waiting. He noted that the creation of the council is not just an administrative achievement, but a foundation for district’s future development.

Focusing on the newly inaugurated market, he emphasised that it is not just a physical space but a shared resource that belongs to every citizen. He encouraged the community to use the market responsibly, keep it clean, and treat it as a symbol of unity and growth. He further added that when people come together with a shared sense of purpose and pride, even small beginnings can become models for others to follow.

He called upon all sections of society to support the council’s initiatives and to take ownership of public spaces like the market, ensuring they are preserved and utilised for the collective good.

In his brief address, Renbomo Ezung, Executive Officer of Wokha Town Council and ADC Wokha, acknowledged the financial limitations but commended the councillors for their proactive steps in establishing the open vendor sheds despite the challenges.

He emphasised that while government support plays a key role in development, it is equally important for the public to extend their cooperation. He also cautioned against the misuse of limited resources. He then called upon the concerned citizens and the concerned colony chairmen, to ensure that the sheds provided are put to good use and maintained properly regardless of whether the development is large or small.

Ezung noted that the councillors are steadily fulfilling their responsibilities and urged the public to recognise these efforts by offering their support. He reminded everyone that initiatives like these must be viewed as shared assets, and with the right mindset, the community can collectively ensure their success and sustainability.

The programme was chaired by Khozamo Lotha, Chairperson, WTC. The special guest also performed the ribbon cutting and unveiling ceremony. Invocation was pronounced by Y Yanbemo Kithan, Deacon, while the Welcome Address was delivered by Nzano P. Kikon, Deputy Chairperson, WTC. A brief report was presented by K. Lidemo Murry, Convenor, Building Committee.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by K Thungchibemo Murry, Councillor, WTC, followed by Benediction and Blessing of the Feast by Nrikhon, Deacon.
