The Wokha Village Students' Union (WVSU) commenced its Platinum Jubilee celebration under the theme “Resilience” on December 27 and will culminate on December 28 at the Wokha village playground.
On day 1, the celebration started with a literary event with Mhomo Tungoe, Joint Secretary to the Governor, Raj Bhavan gracing the event as the special guest.
Special Guest Mhomo Tungoe, delivered an insightful address on the importance of originality and critical thinking in the face of modern challenges. He urged the younger generation to embrace reading, self-discipline, and proactive writing to foster intellectual growth. He cautioned against over-reliance on technology and artificial intelligence, which, while convenient, can lead to laziness and hinder creativity.
Tungoe also highlighted the significance of building a strong, positive support network, emphasising that one’s choice of friends can greatly impact personal and professional success. Reflecting on his own journey, he acknowledged the role his friends played in his achievements, encouraging the youth to surround themselves with motivated and hardworking individuals.
Furthermore, in his speech, he also called on the community to break free from their comfort zones and engage with a broader range of people. Observing that Nagaland’s social circles often tend to be homogeneous, he urged the audience to embrace diversity and interact with individuals from different cultures and backgrounds. This, he said, would not only broaden one’s perspective but also promote mutual understanding and personal development.
Lirhonthung E Kithan, President, Lotha Students’ Union (LSU), extended his greetings to the gathering on behalf of the LSU. He commended the founding members of the WVSU for their vision and leadership, which had helped shape the organisation into a force for unity and progress. Kithan also encouraged the attendees to continue working together for the betterment of the community and to celebrate the achievements of the past while looking ahead to future endeavours.
The day’s programme included a series of literary and creative competitions, such as singing, debates, extempore speaking, quizzes, and painting. These events showcased the diverse talents of the students and contributed to the celebratory atmosphere.
The event was chaired by Mhachoni Y Kikon, with Rondeno P. Murry serving as the moderator. The invocation was delivered by Rev Phyodemo W. Tungoe, Youth Director Wokha Village Baptist Church. The welcome address was given by Thungchibeni T Erui, Literary Secretary WVSU, and a folk song was performed by the Female Cultural Club of Wokha Village. The LSU Anthem was presented by Nzamongi Murry, while Renathung C Murry, Vice President of WVSU, delivered the vote of thanks. The benediction was offered by Eyingbeni Murry, Associate Women’s Leader Wokha Village Baptist Church, and lunch was attended by Nzanbeni P Murry, CNY Director WVBC.
