Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): The Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH), the Western Thetstimi Women Welfare Society (WTWWS), and the Western Thetstimi Welfare Union (WTWU) have unequivocally condemned alleged molestation of women in moving auto on June 15 and demanded strong action against the perpetrators.
According to the organisations’ accounts, the incident occurred when the victim, who arrived at Dimapur Airport from Pune at around 1PM on June 15, halted a passenger auto at 4th Mile, Diphupar.
The victim reportedly asked the driver and the passenger in the auto to drop her at a taxi stand as she was going to Kohima. However, the organisations alleged that instead of taking her to Dimapur, the vehicle proceeded towards Niuland.
Unfamiliar with the route, the victim reportedly requested the auto driver to stop, but to no avail, while the passenger began to ‘molest’ her.
After crossing Showuba, the victim jumped out of the moving auto, resulting in serious injuries, the organisations shared.
Some passers-by in the area noticed her and took her to CIHSR for medical treatment.
Both the passenger and the auto driver were caught by the passers-by and handed over to the Showuba Police Outpost, as per their accounts.
In this regard, an FIR has been lodged at the Women Police Station, Dimapur.
Meanwhile, expressing deep distress over the incident, the WTWWS and WTWU urged the competent authorities for immediate intervention and to take necessary legal action against the perpetrators, treating the matter with urgency and sensitivity.
The WCH also expressed outrage and unequivocally condemned the incident, terming it “not just a criminal act but a grave violation of human dignity and women’s safety.”
It also demanded that the police and law enforcement agencies investigate the matter with utmost urgency and ensure the strictest punishment under the law.
“The judicial process must be expedited so justice is not delayed, and a clear message is sent — such heinous crimes will not be tolerated,” it added.
The WCH said it will also monitor the progress of this case closely and expects timely updates from the investigating authorities.
Meanwhile, the Women Police Station, Dimapur, and the Dimapur Police PRO acknowledged the incident and the registration of the FIR but declined to provide further details pending investigation. However, the arrest of the perpetrators was confirmed.
