A woman’s bike tour across the country for a Rape Free India

Joining one of the biggest campaigns for a “Rape Free India”, woman biker Onen Nenty is part of the one year bike campaign for ‘Action Against Violence’ wherein 2 riders (1 male and 1 female) will travel on bike all over India covering 32000+ kilometers covering 29 states, 8 Union Territories, 400+ Districts, 700+ Cities and 2000 Villages.

Onen Nenty, who was selected among many female riders from across the country to be part of the campaign, said that the main objective of the bike tour is to make India free from gender-based violence, rape, human trafficking and crime against women and children. During this period, she said the bikers will educate the youth about criminal psychology, gender equality and prevention of sexual violence and also conduct seminars in schools and colleges for promotion of gender equality.

Speaking to The Morung Express, she further revealed that the riders will meet the chief minister and the home minister of the respective states and submit anti-rape bill to be passed in the legislative assembly to make stringent laws and speedy trial of heinous rape cases. “There are more objectives which will be implemented during the tour to achieve the Mission "Rape Free India”, she added.

As a woman biker, she expressed that “it takes a lot of courage and dedication to live your passion in a judgmental society.”  Putting across that there will be people constantly giving their opinions and criticisms, she however firmly stated that, “but once my vision is fixed, all these are just constructive for my mission. I make sure it is not by my will but for God's purpose.” She went on to state that “we are all gifted and talented in our own unique ways and anyone can become a biker too but what impact are you bringing to the society?”

As a lady biker and a musician, gender equality is something I'm passionate about, she affirmed while enunciating that “gender equality means equal access to all.” “I choose to challenge stereotype, gender bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women's achievement. I make my voice heard and I encourage everyone to raise your voice to bring about change in our society”, she put across.

Onen Nenty, who hails from Chuchuyimpang village under Mokokchung district is the youngest daughter among five siblings. She became a household name in 2019 after she did a solo bike tour across all the districts of Nagaland under the banner “Kongro Naga On Wheels” (KNOW) spreading the message of ‘women empowerment’. In the year 2018 she also participated in the TVS Apache Bike Racing in Mumbai, striking an experience off her bucket list.

Another dream of hers came true and it wasn’t just visiting one of the most mesmerizing places on earth- Ladakh, but riding all the way there on an 18-day expedition in the Himalayas under the banner “Royal Enfield Himalayan Odyssey Women Edition 2018.” For this ride, she was among the 12 women from across the country, who rode from Delhi to the world’s highest motorable road- Khardung Pass in Ladakh at nearly 18,000 ft.
