Senapati, May 31 (MExN): The Naga Women’s Union (NWU) has condemned the “brutal murder” of a woman from Ukhrul district of Manipur in Meghalaya. She was found dead from downhill cliff at Ryndang Briew on the Shillong-Guwahati Highway, informed a condemnation note from NWU Publicity Wing. Terming the “merciless killing” of the young nurse a “very inhuman and gross violation of human rights,” the union stated, “Human has become so brutal and has failed as human beings where we can’t take shame anymore.” “Why rape and killing of women became so rampant in our society?” it further questioned. NWU maintained that women’s security and safety are severely threatened in the society today where women are continuously targeted and crime against them is on the rise. “We have to stop the code of silence and understand that women are the backbone of the society,” it asserted. The union demanded that the perpetrator(s) should be booked and given befitting punishment to prevent such crime against innocent people in future. It also demanded the authorities concerned to make proper investigation of the incident, book the culprit(s), and deliver justice to the victim’s family at the earliest.
